RTA Inspects 23000 Heavy Vehicle Tyres In H1 2024

RTA Inspects 23000 Heavy Vehicle Tyres In H1 2024. In an effort to ensure road safety and vehicle compliance, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) carried out 23,050 inspections during the first half of 2024. These inspections focused on assessing the condition of tyres on heavy vehicles operating throughout Dubai, highlighting the critical role tyre maintenance plays in public safety.

The RTA’s campaign, in collaboration with Continental Tyres, was aimed at educating motorists and truck operators about the importance of adhering to tyre safety standards. This initiative is part of RTA’s broader strategy to continually enhance road safety and security across the emirate.

RTA Focus On Tyre Safety And Public Awareness

The tyre inspection campaign was led by the Licensing Activities Monitoring Department under RTA’s Licensing Agency, in close cooperation with the Traffic Department of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency. The primary objective of this campaign was not only to enforce regulations but also to promote awareness among heavy vehicle operators about the vital importance of maintaining tyres in good condition.

According to Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA, these inspections were targeted at five major roads frequented by heavy vehicles:

  • Al Maktoum Airport Road
  • Dubai-Al Ain Road
  • Ras Al Khor Road
  • Mohammed bin Zayed Road
  • Lehbab Road

By conducting these inspections, RTA aimed to improve mobility safety, educate drivers about proper tyre maintenance, and reduce traffic incidents caused by faulty tyres.

Significant Decrease In Fines And Traffic Incidents

As a direct result of this initiative, the number of fines issued for ‘non-roadworthy tyres’ decreased by 50% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The extensive fieldwork by RTA teams played a key role in this success, along with a significant 20% reduction in traffic incidents related to tyre failures from 2022 to 2023.

Abdulla Yousef Al Ali further explained, “The goal of these inspections is not merely to impose fines or penalties, but to raise awareness about the necessity of adhering to the correct technical specifications for tyres. Ensuring that tyres are in good condition is crucial for the safety of drivers and all road users.”

Purpose Of The Campaign

The RTA emphasizes that the campaign is centered on improving public safety, rather than issuing fines. Educating drivers about proper tyre maintenance, such as checking tyre pressure, tread depth, and overall condition, is a core part of this initiative. The RTA is committed to ensuring that vehicles meet the highest safety standards, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents caused by tyre-related issues.

Conclusion

The RTA’s proactive measures in inspecting over 23,000 heavy vehicle tyres during the first half of 2024 have demonstrated the authority’s commitment to improving road safety. By focusing on both enforcement and education, the RTA has made strides in reducing fines, raising awareness, and significantly decreasing traffic incidents linked to tyre safety. This initiative is an essential part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the roads are safe for everyone, reinforcing the emirate’s position as a leader in transportation safety.
