Experimental Nol Contact Card Unveiled By RTA

Experimental Nol Contact Card Unveiled By RTA. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced an experimental version of the Nol Contact Card, a pioneering innovation that integrates with both smart and ordinary mobile phones. This new Nol card enables public transport users to conveniently pay transit fares using their mobile phones, enhancing the ease and efficiency of commuting in Dubai.

Seeking Public Feedback On The Experimental Nol Contact Card

In a bid to refine the product before its official launch, the RTA is actively seeking public opinion while showcasing this innovative service. This approach allows users to provide valuable feedback that will help fine-tune the card’s functionality. This experimental version builds on a previous iteration launched last year, which was specifically designed for use with smartphones.

Key Features Of The Nol Contact Card

Khalid Al Awadi, Director of Fare Collection at RTA’s Technical Support Services Sector, elaborated on the features of the Nol Contact Card: “The Nol Contact Card is designed to be easily affixed to any component of a mobile phone and can be effortlessly removed when needed. Unlike other payment solutions, this card does not require any software downloads or installation on either standard or smart mobile phones. Users simply need to attach the card to their phones, and they are ready to go with a simple ‘Tap & Go’ function.”

The card’s simplicity and ease of use make it a potential future payment method that RTA is considering as an addition to the existing Nol card and Smart Nol card, both of which utilize Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

Compatibility And Advantages Of The Nol Contact Card

The Nol Contact Card is versatile and compatible with both ordinary and smart phones, offering the same functionalities as the standard Nol card. It is particularly advantageous for people who are constantly on the move. Through the adoption of Nol card technologies, the RTA has successfully revolutionized traditional methods of paying fares for the metro, public buses, and water buses, which previously required purchasing tickets in advance.

The Evolution Of Smart Nol Card Technology

Since the introduction of the Smart Nol Card at Gitex 2013, the RTA has enabled public transport users in Dubai to leverage NFC technology in their smartphones to pay for fares. Users can simply tap their smartphones on ticket validation machines at metro station entry and exit gates, as well as on devices aboard public buses and water buses, to seamlessly pay their daily travel fares.

Conclusion

The Experimental Nol Contact Card represents a significant step forward in the RTA’s efforts to enhance public transport services in Dubai. By enabling mobile phones to double as transit fare payment tools, the RTA is not only simplifying the daily commute for thousands of users but also paving the way for future innovations in fare collection technology. The ongoing public feedback process will be crucial in refining this service, ensuring it meets the needs of all users before its official launch.
