Speaking during a press event for the Blue Line project, a senior official from Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled groundbreaking details of the network, which is scheduled to commence construction in April next year.

Each train in the new line will have a maximum capacity of 988 passengers, operating across a fleet of 28 trains. Upon its launch on September 9, 2029, the line is expected to handle a daily ridership of 320,000 to 350,000 passengers, connecting five key hubs across Dubai. This date marks a significant milestone, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro Red Line.

Enhancing Connectivity and Property Value

Spanning 30 kilometers, the Blue Line will feature 14 strategically located stations. The project is designed to alleviate traffic congestion and stimulate economic growth by increasing the value of nearby properties by up to 25%. Moreover, the line will offer seamless connectivity between Dubai International Airport and other major destinations, with travel times ranging from 10 to 25 minutes.

The project, valued at AED 20.5 billion, has been awarded to leading international firms MAPA, LIMAK, and CRRC. According to Abdul Muhsen Ibrahim Kalbat, CEO of the RTA’s railway agency, the Blue Line will initially serve 200,000 passengers daily by 2030, with ridership projected to grow to 350,000 daily commuters by 2040.

Cutting-Edge Technology for Efficiency

The Dubai Metro Blue Line will operate using a driverless AI-powered system. This innovative technology ensures the automatic management of trains, offering exceptional efficiency. Should delays or disruptions occur—such as passengers blocking doors—the system will automatically recalculate schedules to minimize inconvenience.

Additionally, the project incorporates advanced braking systems designed to reduce energy consumption. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, emphasized the importance of leveraging the latest technologies to make the Blue Line one of the most energy-efficient rail projects in the region.

Integration with Dubai Urban Vision

Aligned with Dubai’s 20-Minute City initiative, the Blue Line aims to ensure that over 80% of essential services are accessible within a 20-minute commute. The line’s design encourages transit-oriented development (TOD) and features a mix of 15.5 kilometers of underground tracks and 14.5 kilometers of elevated tracks.

Architectural Marvels and Seamless Routes

The Blue Line will include three interchange stations—Al Khor (Green Line), Centrepoint (Red Line), and International City (1). A key highlight of the project is the 1,300-meter bridge over Dubai Creek, marking the Dubai Metro’s first-ever crossing over the iconic waterway.

Among its standout features, the Dubai Creek Harbour station will showcase a unique architectural design, adding aesthetic value to the cityscape. The line will traverse major areas such as Dubai Festival City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai Academic City, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

As part of its commitment to innovation, the RTA will construct a train depot in Al Ruwaiyah 3 to support the operations of the Blue Line.
